Building Church Leadership Covenant
Whereas membership in a local church is predicated upon membership in the body of Christ, leadership in the local church is based upon biblical qualifications, personal character and commitment. The Bible mandates a higher standard for those who lead in the body of Christ (1 Tim 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9). As Christ followers and church leaders, the way we present ourselves is of vital importance to the way others perceive Christ. Our conduct should, therefore, exemplify the qualities of a healthy and growing believer. I acknowledge that as a part of the Building Church leadership family, I have a responsibility to develop and exhibit mature Christian behavior. I understand that as a leader I will lay down some liberties so as not to be a stumbling block to anyone (Rom 14:1-23; 15:1-7). As a leader in the Building Church family, in addition to my membership covenant, I commit myself to God and to the body of Christ to be an example in the following areas:
- I agree to daily cultivate an intimate relationship with God through prayer, Bible study, and a lifestyle of worship (Rom 12:1,2).
- I agree to faithfully attend Sunday services, Life Groups, prayer services, Dream Team meetings, and leadership meetings.
- I agree to support all ministries of the church in word, attitude, and prayer.
- I agree to present a good appearance at all times, in both attire and behavior.
- I agree to uphold biblical standards in my home, workplace, and community.
- I agree to tithe regularly by returning a tenth (10%) of my income to the Lord through the church.
- I agree to abstain from the abuse of substances that are harmful to my body and soul. This includes, but is not limited to tobacco products, drunkenness, and illegal drugs.
- I agree that to the best of my ability, I will reject inward sins, such as envy, malice, jealousy, greed, and pride, while striving to cultivate the fruit of spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal 5:22–23).
- I agree to maintain a life of sexual purity, and will refrain from pornography and sexual activity outside of marriage.
- I agree to use Social Media with integrity. I understand that as a leader I must be mindful of what I post, how I comment, and who I follow.
- I agree to support the mission and vision of Building Church established by the pastoral staff and church leadership (Eph 4:1-16).
- I agree that to the best of my ability, I will uphold the core values of Building Church.
By providing an example in speech and action, I desire to help others grow in Christ and become servant-leaders themselves. This is a way of life measured by the heart of each leader in the Building Church family. I regard it not as a restriction, but as an essential part of my development, an investment in the Body of Christ, and an opportunity for continuing spiritual growth.
Having read the Building Church Leadership Covenant, I commit today to live by the standards expected of a leader at BC.
